Join us as we taste, talk and revel in some seriously old vine Semillon with Rosa Kruger – a passionate vineyard manager and pioneer of the Old Vines Project and John Seccombe – an incredible winemaker who has been working with old vine Semillon since 2015.

Tannie Rosa began her looking for old vines in 2002, in search of older vines that were likely to be uprooted due to lower yields. By 2014 the Old Vines Project was fully launched and had supporters like Chris Alheit, Duncan Savage and Eben Sadie. The Old Vines Project is also an educational platform for sustainable farming and thoughtful crop management and production.

This is a masterclass style seated tasting.

Why Semillon?

Semillon, a grape varietal of French origin, was introduced to South Africa during the 17th century by European settlers, primarily the Dutch. Its adaptability to the region’s warm, sunny climate facilitated its widespread cultivation.

Semillon’s resilience to heat, temperature swings, and drought made it a reliable and versatile crop.

Though its prominence declined, Semillon remains historically vital, with ongoing efforts to revive its production.
