Intellego ‘Elementis’ 2021

R305.00

Chenin Blanc 100%

W.O Swartland (Abbotsdale)
Soil: Alluvial
Alcohol Vol: 11.5%

In the vineyards
Age: Planted in 1988.
Farming: dry farmed bush vines.
Exposition: East facing slope

In the cellar
Fermented on the skins for 14 days, destemmed. Aged in old 500L French oak barrels for 10 months.

Christian Eedes: Wonderfully fragrant on the nose with notes of jasmine, potpourri, dried herbs, naartjie, orange, ginger and other spice. The palate is lean and taut with a pithy finish. It’s not, however, too thin with the wine having a nice suppleness to it. 94pt.

“Our philosophy remains minimal intervention during the winemaking process and the wines are a celebration of the hard work done in the vineyard. For us it is intuitive winegrowing, an evolution through experimentation on small pockets of land selected in the Swartland Appellation.”
― Jurgen Gouws

Intellego Wines owner and winemaker, Jurgen Gouws, is originally from the Eastern Cape but now calls the Swartland home. He has worked with some of that area’s most celebrated names (Eben Sadie, Tom Lubbe, Craig Hawkins). Jurgen’s cartoonishly idiosyncratic labels are one of his hallmarks.

Jurgen favours a natural approach – think organic farming and minimal intervention (no yeast, acid, enzymes or fining; limited sulphur and filtration) in the cellar. He currently makes the wines at Annex Kloof on the Paardeberg.
