Alsace is located in North Eastern France, right on the German border:

  • The Wine Style: It champions aromatic white grapes (Riesling, Gewürztraminer, Pinot Gris) making wines that are generally drier, fuller-bodied, and highly aromatic, a stark contrast to their traditionally sweeter German counterparts.
  • The Terroir: The vineyards sit in the rain shadow of the Vosges Mountains, giving the region an exceptionally dry, sunny climate and boasting the most diverse soil types in France.
  • The Label: Unlike the rest of France, Alsace labels typically feature the grape variety, making them pretty accessible for the rest of the world.
  • The Soil: Alsace is a geological mosaic, featuring over a dozen distinct types (including granite, limestone, marl, and sandstone) packed into a narrow area.
