JH ‘Stompie’ Meyer is the man behind some of South Africa’s most highly regarded orange wines, and this new release confirms Stompie’s position as captain of the natural wine club (whether he likes it or not).
JH ‘Stompie’ Meyer makes wines that defy expectations and break from traditions that insist that great wine needs to be a manipulated product full of additives. His only pursuit is making delicious wines that he is excited to drink.
An all around nice guy, Stompie will disarm you with his smile, and win you over with his range of esoteric, nuanced wines.
His wines are emphatically natural and it is this charm and drive to deliver exceptional wine free from additives that have won Stompie a legion of fans across the globe.
Stompie’s winery is in Piket-Bo-Berg, a new ward at the far north of the Swartland that he personally motivated to establish; he was so convinced about the area’s potential and notable differences from the surrounding area. 800m above sea level on the plateau of the Piketberg mountain, it is significantly cooler and receives about twice as much annual rainfall as other parts of the Swartland.
