Alinea Wines
“The beginning of a new train of thought”
― The meaning of Alinea
Summary
She came onto our radar after winning the Winemag.co.za Next Generation Awards 2024, with a very classy Sauvignon Blanc from St. Helena Bay. We have been continually impressed by the quality of wine she is making and the passion she has for making it.
After studying at Silwood School of Cookery, Natasha developed her interest in wine while working at fine dining restaurants in Cape Town. She then did a harvest at Cape Point Vineyards and was hooked, and the following year enrolled at Elsenberg College, graduating top of her class in 2020.
Natasha started Alinea, meaning “The beginning of a new train of thought”, in 2021. This encapsulates her personal journey, moving from a career as a chef to a vigneron, and her winemaking philosophy of continually searching for unique varieties and vineyard blocks. Natasha favours a low-intervention approach in the cellar.
During Covid-19 lockdown, bored and eager to put her education to use, Natasha planted vines at her family home in Noordhoek. The first block, 750 vines of stok-by-paaltjies (Échalas) Syrah, and the second, a white field blend of 650 vines, also stok-by-paaltjie, of Grenache Blanc, Verdelho, Chenin Blanc, Colombar, Roussanne and Semillon. The first harvest from both blocks was in 2024.
Natasha is a wonderful addition to the Ex Animo portfolio, and we hold immense confidence in her brand and ability. The 2025 vintage is in barrel and exhibiting superb quality.
