From three Swartland vineyards, John's Old Vine Chenin Blanc is spectacularly complex but precise with beautiful aromatics.

"Grapes from three Swartland vineyards, two Paardeberg vineyards on granite and one west of Malmesbury on more iron-rich soil. The nose is expressive, offering notes of pear, peach, a touch of lemon, hay and florals. The palate is rich and intense, yet brimming with energy, the finish deeply savoury. Dense but equally remarkably taut. 96/100"

This vintage of Wanderer's Heart is what the Thorne & Daughters team consider a Cape Red blend. A wine that is built around various incredible vineyards found all over the Western Cape.

"45% Grenache, 36% Syrah, 11% Carignan and 8% Mourvèdre, sourced from Olifantsberg in Breedekloof and Gabriëlskloof in Bot River. The nose is complex yet restrained, with notes of red and black berries, olive brine, fynbos and white pepper. The palate is focused and linear – almost austere – with pure fruit and fresh acidity, the finish long and dry. More detail and finesse than previous vintages. 94/100."

Thorne & Daughters' cornerstone wine is everything you want to see in a Western Cape white blend: grace and finesse, acidity and balance. John uses simple winemaking techniques, letting the fruit express itself in each vintage.

"30% Roussanne, 28% Chenin Blanc, 20% Chardonnay, 15% Semillon and 7% Clairette Blanc sourced from across the Western Cape. A triumph being both multifaceted but also completely coherent. Flowers, pear, peach, citrus, apple, earth, spice and a hint of leesy complexity on the nose while the palate has it all: depth of fruit, texture, a lovely line of acidity and long, savoury finish. A wine of pin-point accuracy. 98/100"

All of their wines take their names from archetypal childrens ’ toys , and Tin Soldier takes its name from Semillon’s status as the old foot soldier of the South African industry. Much like the old toy soldiers buried in the garden, Semillon has been reduced to a mere shadow of its former glory days in the Cape, this wine is a celebration of the Cape wine industry and its history.

"From Swartland Semillon Gris, 50% fermented on the skins for approximately one week. Some reduction before peach, orange and red apple, with subtle notes of potpourri and spice. The palate is medium bodied with well-integrated acidity, the finish gently savoury. Flavourful and balanced, the wine is relatively understated, any phenolic grip nicely managed. 93/100."
