“Undoubtedly, Lukas is one of the most talented winemakers to come out of South Africa in the last few years, producing wines with incredible focus and tension, purity and liquid minerality that lays bare the terroir characteristics of his various selected vineyards.”

The new Vintage 2021 'Break A Leg' Chardonnay and Merlot from Lukas van Loggerenberg
The first wine named ‘Break A Leg’ was from Van Loggerenberg’s maiden vintage in 2016. Lukas ripped his knee apart in an accident just prior to this first solo harvest. He had already borrowed heavily to get the money together for the first vintage of Van Loggerenberg Wines, so his good friend David Sadie (of David & Nadia fame) suggested that Lukas make a rosé-styled wine to help with the hospital bills, and Break A Leg was born.
Last year he released the first Chardonnay and Merlot under this label. We are releasing the new 2021 vintage of both of these wines.
The Wines
Van Loggerenberg 'Break A Leg' Chardonnay 2021
This Chardonnay is a blend of fruit from Polkadraai Hills and Devon Valley (both in Stellenbosch). Gloriously fresh and mineral – unwooded, but not austere, this is a great option for those that like more precise wines.
Van Loggerenberg 'Break A Leg' Merlot 2021
What a wine! This is a serious little drink. 100% destemmed and raised in old French oak barriques. Perhaps better suited to Cabernet drinkers who don’t want to spend Cabernet money. Classy stuff.
