Mother Rock ‘The Building Blocks’ Red 2024

R350.00

A powerful site-driven blend from Platteklip Vineyards. 80% whole bunch, 14 months in old oak, and then 8 months in concrete. Old oak + concrete = deliciousness. This will be the last vintage featuring Pinot Noir.

“Intriguing aromatics of red berries, potpourri, some meatiness and spice – nothing overt. Medum bodied with bright acidity and fine tannins. Unshowy, taut and uncompromisingly dry on the finish.” – Christian Eedes, Winemag.co.za

“Stompie Meyer says he wants to make “energetic, artisanal, fun and creative” wines and he’s succeeding admirably.”
— Christian Eedes, Winemag

“Some of South Africa’s top natural wines”
— Jamie Goode

These are natural wines, with organic farming a foundation of the project. In the cellar, Stompie keeps things very simple: minimal additions—often not even sulphur. He relies on a combination of the quality of the vineyard, organic farming, picking early, and his skill in the winery to produce expressive wines of honesty and heart at ridiculous value.

These wines are some of the edgiest and most delicious being made in South Africa today.

There are vineyards being planted on the new farm that will eventually be used for this label in years to come.
