Pool Wine! Summer Mixed Case 2025

For Jurgen, the various types of facial hair represent the three styles of red wine: red (beard), rosé (clean skin), and light red (moustache). This wine is a light, playful red, with a colour that's a mix between a pink and a light ruby, just like a "pink moustache." It’s a great wine to drink on a warm summer’s day next to the pool. A blend of 48% Cinsault, 35% Syrah, and 17% Mourvèdre. The Cinsault and Syrah were cold-soaked and pressed as fermentation began, while the Mourvèdre was direct-pressed. All components were aged for a brief five months in barrels, with some kept in stainless steel to preserve the vibrant fruit character. The result is a bright and fresh wine that showcases the delicate red fruit and natural acidity of the vintage.

Ex Animo’s first W.O. Constantia wine is a Sauvignon Blanc that is not overtly racy in style. Instead, it is a more structured and balanced wine. The wine has a distinct saline quality, subtle, briny, mineral-like character, with tropical notes is often associated with wines from the coastal region. These fruit-forward and linear notes combined with its well-integrated acidity, makes for a refreshing and vibrant Sauvignon Blanc.

The name of this wine is a tribute, family names of Mick and Jeanine's, Ann and Faure. But there's a clever second layer: the name also hints at 'amphorae,' a nod to the concrete aging that gives this Pinot Noir its incredible purity and freshness.

Natural yeast, concrete aging and decomposed granite soils creates a juicy, light and site-specific Pinot Noir.

Proefkonyn, meaning Guinea Pig, is a Verdelho from Franco Lourens, it is his "playground" for experimenting with different varieties and processes. He emphasises that he's not trying to reinvent Verdelho but is simply having fun making it, and that consumers shouldn't expect a wine similar to the rest of the Lourens Family Wines range. Verdelho is known for its resilience to heat and drought and its natural acidity and low pH.

The wine was fermented spontaneously in two older, neutral 500L barrels and matured on its fine lees for 10 months. It was bottled unfined and with only coarse filtration. On the palate, it presents a profile of yellow fruits with a clean, energetic character that might be reminiscent of a Chenin Blanc.

This is a petillant naturel made from Mourvedre - a variety that Jurgen is working with more and more (fans of the Kedungu have already tasted the rewards of this shift).

"Mila is my wife's niece and her bubbly personality as a 2.5 year old struck me when they stayed with us pre wedding. Apart from hearing my wife complain about my style her brother calling “Hey Mila” was something I heard often and it grew on me."

A serious Rosé from the single, organically-farmed Grenaatfontein vineyard (26-year-old Bush Vines, Weathered Granite). Made with care: 100% whole-cluster pressed with very slow, gentle extraction, limiting recovery to just 55% of the free-run juice. Fermented naturally and aged 8 months on the lees in neutral French oak. This is a textured, complex Rosé, bottled unfined and unfiltered with low SO2.
