The release of these three Swartland wines was not planned to be simultaneous, it is simply happy coincidence. We are chuffed to be able to offer these awesome wines as we think they provide some of the best value in the portfolio.
The wines...
Mother Rock White 2019
From the little master in the Piket-Bo-Berg, Johan ‘Stompie’ Meyer. This wine is a perennial favourite at Ex Animo HQ – we drank a 2016 recently and it was looking superb after a long decant.
Christian Eedes (winemag.co.za): “From vineyards scattered throughout the Swartland, this consists of 57% Chenin Blanc, 22% Viognier, 18% Grenache Blanc and 3% skin-contact Semillon. A wonderfully complex nose of white peach, apple, lime, lemon, flowers and herbs. The palate is elegant and detailed – remarkably light and pure with bright acidity and a long, pithy finish. A delight to drink. 96/100.” Link to full review
Intellego 'Kedungu' 2019
Light red wine is a style that Jurgen has absolutely nailed with the Kedungu. Pure fruited, so pretty and aromatic with a nice level of spice and grape tannin keeping things tidy. Named after his favourite surf break in Bali.
In 2019, Jurgen upped the proportion of Mourvedre, making it the major component (60%) for the first time, supported by Syrah (26%) and Cinsaut (14%).
Trizanne Signature Wines 'TSW' Cinsault 2020
An exciting debut Cinsault from the lady who made the Best Red Wine at the Trophy Wine Show 2020.
Hand picked from 15 to 25-year-old dry land vines on Swartland shale and decomposed granite soils. 100% destemmed and naturally fermented in open top fermenters. The wine was matured with French oak for approximately 4 months. No fining took place.
A youthful punch of red fruits on the nose with a delightfully perfumed touch. That continues on the harmonious and well-weighted palate. A youthful, delicious wine with a crunchy acidity and a lingering finish.
