ROAGNA
From the heart of Piedmont to the heart of Cape Town
The 2017 Barolos and Barbarescos from ROAGNA have arrived!
On a recent buying trip to Italy, Ex Animo Director David Clarke met with Luca Roagna, winemaker at the Roagna Cellar in Castiglione Falletto. There they tasted the 2017 wines from the special old vineyards that Luca’s family have been lovingly farming for generations. David has secured an exclusive consignment of these incredible Italian wines, which have recently landed in Cape Town.
The Roagna family is part of an ancient winemaking tradition in Piedmont dating back to the 1880’s. The wines of Roagna have long been regarded as some of the finest red wines in the world, and are eagerly snapped up by wine merchants and collectors.
To say that these wines are rare is an understatement – only a limited number of bottles are released every year. Ex Animo is proud to be the sole importer of Roagna to South Africa. We only receive 12 bottles of some of the wines.
To celebrate we are releasing these wines at an intimate and truly unique event on Thursday 15th June where attendees will be the first in South Africa to taste and be offered the wines.
We will send the offer out to our mailing list following the dinner.

This is an intriguing set of new releases from Alfredo and Luca Roagna
Join us on the eve of Youth Day, Thursday 15th June 2023, for a first look at these excellent wines. We will open each of the 10 Barolos and Barbarescos we have imported, with a combined value of over R25,000.
David Clarke will talk us through each wine, and share some of his insights from his recent boots-on-the-ground trip to Piedmont.
Sadly Farro has had to cancel, so we will offer each guest a delicious pizza from Pizza Shed in Observatory.
David began his career in wine in his native city of Melbourne before finally making his home with wife, and fellow sommelier, Jeannette in Cape Town.
David has toured, tasted and worked in wine for more than 20 years, working Australia, United Kingdom and South Africa. He is a Certified Sommelier with the Court of Master Sommeliers, with experience in wine retail (Harrods, London), distribution and importing (Ex Animo, South Africa).
