Ex Animo Wine Co. is pleased to announce the release of the 2020 vintage Saurwein single origin Pinot Noirs: Nom and Om.
Hailed on the cover of Decanter magazine as one of the 50 most exciting wines of 2018, Jessica Saurwein’s Pinot Noirs are sought after throughout the wine loving world.
From her inaugural vintage of Nom Pinot Noir in 2015, Jessica has grown the reputation and demand of her small batch Pinot Noirs to a point where she is able to focus all her attention on full time winemaking as well as her young family.
“Never one to shy away from a challenge, there is just something very gentle and chilled about Jessica while simultaneously being one of the most dogged and determined new female winemakers in South Africa”
― Greg Sherwood MW
Vintage 2020
Jessica: “The Kaaimansgat Vineyard in the Elandskloof Valley, the origin of the Nom Pinot Noir, lies at 700 m above sea-level and is surrounded by tall mountains, making it ideal terroir for the optimal ripening of Pinot Noir. There was wind during set which led to tiny berries and thus great concentration. This, combined with gentle extraction in the cellar has created a wine with great intensity without being weighty.
“The Hemel-en-Aarde Ridge, dryland vineyard in Walker Bay is 300m above sea level, just 12km from the ocean. Early ripening conditions turned into wetter conditions closer to harvest, which made the picking date all-important. The resultant wine from this site is energetic, concentrated and has a great fresh acidity.“
