Intellego ‘Elementis’ 2025

R350.00

Elementis 2025 is 100% Chenin Blanc from an Abbotsdale vineyard on structured, iron-rich soils. The grapes ferment with their skins for fourteen days before pressing, followed by eleven months in older 500-litre barrels.

Jurgen emphasises knowing how far to take skin contact. He wants the additional texture without overworking the grapes or losing the fruit. Alongside the Intellego Chenin Blanc, Elementis shows how the skins change the texture and structure of the same variety.

“Gorgeous aromatics of citrus, stone fruit, flowers, herbs and ginger. Pure fruit and crisp acidity before a bone-dry finish.”

Intellego is the Swartland wine project of Jurgen Gouws, who started the label in 2009. Originally from the Eastern Cape, he now makes his wines in the Paardeberg, working with vineyards across the region.

His approach starts with getting to know those vineyards. In the cellar, he uses spontaneous fermentation and works with techniques such as skin contact and whole-bunch fermentation according to the wine he wants to make.

Texture is a recurring focus, particularly in the whites. Working with the same vineyards over several years has helped Jurgen understand how they respond to each vintage and refine his approach. The range includes pét-nats, Chenin Blanc, skin-contact whites and reds ranging from light blends to single-variety Syrah and Pinotage.
