Intellego ‘Halagasha’ 2026

R265.00

Halagasha 2026 is 100% Pinotage from a Paardeberg vineyard planted in 1997. The wine underwent 20% whole-bunch fermentation and spent five months in older oak.

Jurgen describes Halagasha as a celebration of what can be achieved with Pinotage. Its name refers to the call used when celebrating a goal in football. It offers a still-red counterpart to the Pinotage pét-nat, Sybille., and a single-variety comparison with Intellego’s red blends.

“Pure and vibrant with fine tannins, the finish lightly dry.”

Intellego is the Swartland wine project of Jurgen Gouws, who started the label in 2009. Originally from the Eastern Cape, he now makes his wines in the Paardeberg, working with vineyards across the region.

His approach starts with getting to know those vineyards. In the cellar, he uses spontaneous fermentation and works with techniques such as skin contact and whole-bunch fermentation according to the wine he wants to make.

Texture is a recurring focus, particularly in the whites. Working with the same vineyards over several years has helped Jurgen understand how they respond to each vintage and refine his approach. The range includes pét-nats, Chenin Blanc, skin-contact whites and reds ranging from light blends to single-variety Syrah and Pinotage.
