Luddite Shiraz (don’t let Niels hear you call it “Syrah”) is one of the icon wines of modern South Africa. As Christian Eedes puts it: “….it’s unlike anything you may encounter from Stellenbosch, Swartland or just about anywhere else.”. This wine usually weighs in at 14.5-15.5%, while the 2021 is at 13.6% (14% on the label). This does not mean a “light” year, but one with more red fruit purity and finesse to go with that signature Luddite Shiraz texture and balance, and very importantly, a long, dry finish.
