Thorne & Daughters 2025 Release Mixed Case

Paper Kite is picked from an old block of Semillon with some natural Semillon Gris mutations, first planted in 1963 (Gris cuttings from this vineyard were planted for The Tin Soldier vineyard). Layers of umami, honey and salty sea breeze in this elegant, powerful wine.

From three Swartland vineyards, John's Old Vine Chenin Blanc is spectacularly complex but precise with beautiful aromatics.

The nose is expressive, offering notes of pear, peach, a touch of lemon, hay and florals. The palate is rich and intense, yet brimming with energy, the finish deeply savoury. "45% Grenache, 36% Syrah, 11% Carignan and 8% Mourvèdre, sourced from Olifantsberg in Breedekloof and Gabriëlskloof in Bot River. The nose is complex yet restrained, with notes of red and black berries, olive brine, fynbos and white pepper. The palate is focused and linear – almost austere – with pure fruit and fresh acidity, the finish long and dry. More detail and finesse than previous vintages. 94/100."

John and Tasha Seccombe of Thorne & Daughters love Pinot Noir for its supple, delicate power and its ability to elegantly and honestly express its origins.

"We take to heart the challenge of producing a great wine from this exacting varietal and like so many other Pinot lovers you will often find a bottle on our table."

They vinify the wine as sympathetically as possible with wild yeasts, a percentage of whole cluster ferments and maturation in old oak barrels.

Copper Pot shows aromas of bright pomegranate, hibiscus and raspberry coulis, with underlying notes of pine needle and wild herbs. In the mouth it is finely balanced showing an integrated acidity and fine tannins, these being balanced out by generous red fruit and fennel freshness. The finish is satisfyingly dry with a touch of nutmeg and earthiness.

Thorne & Daughters' cornerstone wine is everything you want to see in a Western Cape white blend: grace and finesse, acidity and balance. John uses simple winemaking techniques, letting the fruit express itself in each vintage.

"30% Roussanne, 28% Chenin Blanc, 20% Chardonnay, 15% Semillon and 7% Clairette Blanc sourced from across the Western Cape. A triumph being both multifaceted but also completely coherent. Flowers, pear, peach, citrus, apple, earth, spice and a hint of leesy complexity on the nose while the palate has it all: depth of fruit, texture, a lovely line of acidity and long, savoury finish. A wine of pin-point accuracy. 98/100"
